Sofia
The capital — most international, best infrastructure
Urban, cosmopolitan, startup-friendly
Sofia sits at the foot of Vitosha mountain, giving it an unusual combination of urban convenience and easy access to nature. The city has modernised significantly over the past decade, with a growing tech scene, reliable metro system, and a wide range of international restaurants and cafes.
For digital nomads, Sofia offers the most options — from budget coworking spaces to premium offices, from short-stay apartments to long-term rentals. The city has a well-established expat community and several nomad-focused Facebook groups and meetups.
The cost of living is higher than Bansko or Plovdiv but still significantly lower than most Western European capitals. A comfortable lifestyle — good apartment, coworking membership, eating out regularly — runs around €1,500–€2,000 per month.
